We don’t sell raw milk. We do something better. We offer you a way to own a part of the herd. It’s called a herd share, and it’s a simple, legal way to enjoy fresh milk straight from the cows you co-own. When you buy a herd share, you're not buying milk, you're buying into the life of a dairy cow. That means your share of the milk is yours to pick up each week, just like any other co-owner.
Here’s how it works:
📜 Step 1: Buy a Share of the Herd
You purchase an undivided interest in our herd of cows. That makes you a Herd Owner. You can buy a full share (about 1 gallon/week) or a half share (about ½ gallon/week). That makes you a Herd Owner. Each share represents a piece of the herd, like buying a slice of a cow, without the mess.
🐮 Step 2: We Board and Care for Your Cow(s)
We act as the “Agister,” which means we handle all the feeding, milking, mucking, and moo-ing on your behalf. You pay a monthly boarding fee, which covers the cow’s care, milking, and your share of supplies and farm upkeep.
🥛 Step 3: Pick Up What What's Yours
Each week, you bring clean jars and pick up the milk your share produced. It’s that simple. The milk is for your household use only. We’ll never sell it to you, because you already own it.

Ready to become a herd owner?
We are currently full up on our herd share, so join our wait list.
We can’t wait to welcome you to the herd.
Can I buy a half gallon of milk from you?
No. We cannot legally sell milk as a product.
How do I join?
If the program is not full, head on over to our online store and find the Herd Share product for the following month. You will have the choice to pay for the subscription monthly or for the whole year at once.
What day am I picking up? What are your hours?
When you join, you will have the ability to make a selection out of our available pick-up days and times. Typical days are Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays currently.
I've heard the program is full. How do I join?
You can join the wait list by sending us your contact information via this form.
I've got some vacation coming up and I won't be available to pick up. Can you refund me that week's fees?
No, The agreement states that you are providing maintenance fees for the herd. Therefore, since the cow isn't going on vacation, it still needs maintaining… Don't stress though. It's not like we are going to forfeit the milk you want (likely the reason you are a part of this program), so call us and lets work out how we can accommodate you in the weeks you are not on vacation!
Since this feels like a club, do I get a discount on other stuff?
Absolutely. We regularly send our herd share members, member-only discounts via promo codes that are multi-use via our online store.
How do I cancel a herd share?
Either you (the Owner) or McGreen Acres (the Agister) can end the agreement at any time with at least 30 calendar days’ written notice by email or mail. The written notice must clearly state the exact date when the agreement will end.
If there’s a catastrophic loss of herd animals or an act of God, the notice can be given as soon as possible instead of waiting the full 30 days.
Afterwards, we buy back the shares from you at the price you paid for them.
What is a Bovine Agistment Agreement?
It’s a boarding contract between you (the Owner) and McGreen Acres LLC (the Agister). You own shares in the herd, and McGreen Acres boards, cares for, and milks the herd for you.
What is a Bovine Bill of Sale?
This Bovine Bill of Sale is a legal document that transfers an undivided ownership interest (a share or half share) in a herd of cows from McGreen Acres LLC to you, the buyer. It spells out the cost per share, the buyer’s rights to a portion of the herd’s milk, and includes details about first right of refusal and risk of loss.
Do I own the cows?
You own an undivided interest (share) in the herd. You do not have rights to any specific cow, any calves born, or any meat that may be harvested. Calves may be added or sold at McGreen Acres’ discretion.
How much does it cost?
Shares cost $65 per month per full share and $32.50 per month per half share. The Agister may adjust fees up to twice a year, but increases cannot exceed 25% annually.
When and how do I pay?
Your first month’s fee is due when you sign the agreement. After that, you must pay monthly, even if you don’t pick up your milk. Payments are made via our online store.
How much milk do I get?
One full share typically yields about one gallon per week; a half share yields about half a gallon. Actual amounts vary based on herd production.
How do milk pickups work?
You and McGreen Acres agree on consistent pickup days and times in advance. You must pick up in person, only you or your designated agent can collect your milk. If you don’t pick up within two days of your scheduled pickup, the milk may be disposed of.
Can I visit/tour the farm?
Yes, by appointment only and with express permission and supervision. You cannot visit or bring guests without prior arrangement.
What about the milk jars?
You must provide clean glass jars and lids for milk storage and are responsible for cleaning them. Clean jars are a condition of your agreement.
What if I don’t pay?
If you fail to pay your fees on time, we will give you 10 business days’ written notice. After that, we can sell or acquire your share in the herd to cover your debt.
Who is responsible if someone gets sick from raw milk?
You accept full responsibility and risk for consuming raw milk. You agree to educate your family and guests about the risks. McGreen Acres is not liable once you pick up your milk.
What if there’s a dispute?
Most disputes must be submitted to arbitration, except for non-payment claims. Any claims must be made in writing within 180 days of learning about the issue.
Can I sell my shares to someone else?
Technically, Yes, however, we reserve first right of refusal, meaning we get the chance to buy back the shares before you sell them. If we don't buy them back, you can transfer your shares to someone else, but only if we approve the transfer.
