Join the wait listAt McGreen Acres, our herd share program isn’t just about a product, it’s a relationship. Our herd share members don’t just help maintain milk cows for part of the milk production, they become part of the story that starts in our pastures and ends at your table.
So we’d like to introduce you to the real stars of the show: the cows who make it all happen. Each one has her own story, personality, and quirks. Every gallon of milk reflects the love and care we pour into their lives.
Mindy was our first cow, the one who started it all. I brought her home when my oldest daughter was just one, deciding that if we were going to drink milk, we wanted it to be the healthiest option possible: straight from our own cow.
Mindy’s a sassy A2A2 Jersey who loves scratches, cookies, and occasionally stepping on feet or head-butting toddlers (with love, of course). As a former 4H girl, she came halter-trained and ready to be handled, a perfect partner as we learned to milk together.
In 2022, Mindy had a major setback after slipping in the mud and breaking her femur. She spent five weeks at Texas A&M for care and came home for a full year of rest. After a few failed AI attempts, we gave live cover a try. Frederick got the job done on the first cycle!
Mindy gave us a beautiful Belfair heifer in February 2025, and while she’s a little lopsided from her old injury, she gets around just fine and still gives us rich, creamy milk. She’s the heart of our herd.
When Mindy had to take a break, we couldn’t imagine going without raw milk. So along came Ginseng (aka Ginny).
Ginny’s a calm, gentle A2A2 Jersey we got from a small East Texas breeder, and she settled in right away. Ginny’s milk is sweet, and her cream line is something to brag about. Her milk continues to be the favorite among the family. She’s dependable, friendly, and doesn’t have a speck of the Jersey sass that Mindy flaunts.
Ginny gave us a handsome bull calf in 2024 and is expecting again in October 2025. Fingers crossed for a little heifer this time!
Dixie wasn’t supposed to be a dairy cow. She’s an Aberdeen (mini) Angus we originally got for beef. But, when she calved for the first time, she was so full of milk we couldn’t just let her suffer. I was breastfeeding myself at the time and felt her discomfort in my bones.
Even though she had never been handled or milked, she let me relieve some pressure that first day. The second day? She introduced me to her impressive kicking abilities. But with a little persistence (and maybe a few bruises), she came around.
Now she’s one of our go-to gals for milk. She recently gave us a spunky little heifer we’re bottle feeding and just like her mom, she’s full of fire and full of love.
When you join our herd share, you're not joining a cow maintenance program for raw milk, you’re joining a story that includes Mindy’s patience, Ginny’s calm, and Dixie’s surprise journey into the dairy world.
Our cows are raised on pasture, with non-GMO, corn- and soy-free feed. They get daily care, routine handling, and the kind of attention that turns farm animals into family. That shows in the quality of the milk we offer to you.
Check out our herd share program and see how you can bring fresh, local raw milk into your home—straight from these three ladies (and the calves that follow in their hoofsteps).
